Client: Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS)
Perez designed this new high school to be an educational tool itself—with building systems exposed so that students can see how the structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems actually work. The school’s pedagogical objectives drove the design of the school, with classrooms organized into pods attached to a circulation spine anchored by the cafeteria. Each of the three pods (each one named for a famous scientist) is comprised of classrooms surrounding a multi-purpose ‘breakout’ space. The classrooms are for individual learning, while the multi-purpose spaces are for hands-on activities and group projects.

Services: Master Planning & Lead Design Team
Client: Louisiana World Exposition, Inc.
The Historic 1984 World’s Fair transformed a decaying industrial area into a vibrant postmodern festival, spurring redevelopment of the entire downtown and riverfront area of New Orleans. Perez served as the Master Planner and Lead Design Team and created one of the most notable aspects of the fair: the Mississippi Aerial River Transit (or MART), an aerial gondola traversing the river from the CBD to Algiers Point, built to showcase non-polluting commuter transit options.
