This new 800,000 square foot casino design included 4 levels– gaming, restaurants, ballroom, back of house support, parking. Designed to be a “good neighbor” to the high rise immediately across the street on all 5 sides of the building– all mechanical equipment on the roof was hidden by an elaborate & fanciful copper roof, and loading docks made invisible, by placing them below grade, accessed by one small opening to a ramp that leads to basement loading docks. Located at the iconic foot of Canal St, it is surrounded by a dozen buildings nearly all originally designed by Perez– a half dozen high rise hotels (Hilton, W Hotel, Westin by Perez), Canal Place office building, hotel, shopping center, and parking garage, the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, and Riverwalk Shopping Center.
